How Do I Know If the Air Conditioning Is Working Well Enough?

People often wonder how they can tell if an air conditioning system is working well enough. This is something that is very important to consider because your comfort is paramount, and you may have spent a great deal of money on your system. Determining whether or not your air conditioning system is working well enough can also be important if you are considering purchasing a new system.

Many people look for technical answers to these types of questions, and we will provide a couple of them for you. However, at first, we would like to keep it simple.

Your body is a thermometer and barometer of sorts. When you are in your home and your air conditioner is running, stop and ask yourself how you feel. Are you totally comfortable? Or, do you feel a bit warm, clammy, or even sweaty?

If you are not comfortable physically this could be a sign that your air conditioning is not working well enough.

The next step that you should take if you feel physical signs the air conditioning may not be working well enough would be to check the thermostat. You set your thermostat to a particular temperature, and your air conditioner should automatically cool the home to that temperature.

If you look at the air conditioner setting and see one temperature, say 75°, and notice that the actual temperature in the room exceeds 75°, you can be pretty sure that your air conditioner is not working well enough.

Another telltale sign can be noise. If you are awakened in the middle of the night by some loud rattling, or if you hear a lot of bad-sounding noise when you are outside where the air conditioning unit is, your air conditioner is not functioning properly.

This does not mean that you will necessarily feel hot and uncomfortable in your home, but the unit is malfunctioning, and it will only get worse if you don’t take action to get the problem corrected.

Another thing to consider is your indoor air quality. Your air conditioner might not be working well enough if you or your family members are noticing a reduction in the indoor air quality.

An air conditioner that is working well should circulate clean air. There could be some type of maintenance that is necessary if the air quality is not up to par, and there could also be dirt, mold or debris in your air ducts.

Air conditioning is very important because it directly affects your quality of life, and it could even affect your health. If you suspect that your air conditioner is not working properly you should certainly contact a licensed professional to take a look at the problem.
